Q.I Found An Easy Way To Kill Wild Onions

Zone zone 7b | mrdf3@yahoo.com added on February 6, 2020 | Answered

Growing tired of pulling and digging thick clumps of wild onions by hand for 20+ years, I read about them and learned that their growing season is winter and that they don’t like lime. So on a mild day in Jan. 2019 I cut them off at ground level and covered the bare spots with 1/8-1/4″ of lime and they are gone!!! No toxic chemicals and no digging! This method might work for other people.

This will work, but make sure that you test your pH, as applying lime to the soil can also raise the pH too high to sustain most plants. Be sure to adjust the pH back down to 6.5 to 7 when you are ready to plant.
