I failed to cut back my asparagus this past fall, will it be ok?

I planted my first asparagus garden last spring/early summer. I was instructed not to cut them back the first winter, but now I keep reading that I should have. We’ve had a rather mild winter here in NC, so I’m hoping the plants will be ok. Any advice?

Thanks for your help!

It is usually better to cut them back in fall, but you can wait until very early spring if necessary.
