Q.Why are chicken and hen succulents bulging upwards

Zone Indiana | dkovener added on March 29, 2015 | Answered

Why are chicken and hen succulents bulging upwards and not laying flat? I am planting chicken and hen succulents in mini clay pots to use as wedding favors. However, the succulents are bulging upwards and not laying flat like they originally were. Do you know why and what should I do?

Growing upwards is a common and normal growing pattern for some varieties of Hens and Chicks.
You can remove the plant and try tucking it deeper into the pot to give you the visual effect your looking for.

You could keep the hens and chicks in a tray of sand mix potting soil and just prior to your wedding event place them in the pots. This would eliminate them growing out of the pots before you give them to your guests!
