I am looking for a plant that looks like a miniature tree

I am looking for a plant that looks like a miniature tree, but is not too expensive. I am trying to create a miniature garden. Also, any suggestions for ground cover would be appreciated.

What a delightful project! But there are so many possibilites, you might try to define your objectives a little more closely. Do you want a tropical look with palms and things, or a desert look with cacti and succulents, or a forest look, or flower garden, or what? When you say miniature tree, are you thinking of bonsai? Many of them are expensive for sure, but some plants that can be successfully “bonsai’d” indoors are ponytail palm, dwarf arboricola, portulacaria, jade tree, “money tree,” and some varieties of ficus, and neantha bella palm. The best thing to do is to look at lots of pictures. Groundcover is really difficult, small leaved plants aren’t easy to grow, but you can search terrarium plants; you might get on better with dried moss, or sand and gravel. Best of luck.
