Hydrangeas

I inherited care of hydrangeas in Massachusetts. I pruned off the old dead wood and thay have come back, lush and full. However, it is mid-July and I don’t see any buds. did I prune incorrectly?

Hydrangeas are tricky! Some bloom on last year's wood, some on this year's. Since you don't know which you have, omit pruning next spring. Live and learn!
