Hibiscus Problem

A white cottony substance has appeared on several branches of one of my hibiscus plants and appears to be spreading to neighboring plants. Please advise on how to remedy the problem. I live in Miami.

It could be the result of scale pests, which may be seen moving within the white cottony areas. The following article should be of some help to you:
