Hibiscus and cotoniasta (in site 6 years) need to move

We want to put raised beds where they are now. Can we fill in with soil and leave them there, or will this kill them? Also, we need to move them shortly if this is better. How do I protect them from dying at the worst time of year I know to move them? Hibiscus are the purple hardy type and Cotoniasta has tiny green leaves with beautiful tiny white flowers. My gardening skills are very small and knowledge of names of plants far from good, but any help would be great.

I would move them rather than burying them deeper.

The best way to do keep them alive right now is water, water, water and perhaps setting up temporary shade for them while they become established. Make sure you water them every morning and every night for at least a week. Then every other day for 1-2 weeks after that.

As for the shade, an opaque cloth set up like a canopy over the plants works well. Something that will let light through, but in a more filtered state. These can remain in place until you see new growth, or the temperatures come down.
