Hyacinths

We live in Florida and hyacinths do not do well when planted outside. My husband moved to FL as a tween and had never seen a hyacinth, so I bought one at the grocery store and we so enjoyed watching it grow and flower. My question is, can I save it for next year?

Also, we have clay in our yard (both front and back) we need to plant a tree in the front yard as the original one died. My husband has addressed a drainage issue with French drains. He has numerous people at all kinds of garden centers and the general thought is that trees won’t grow in our clay.

Thank you for your help.

You can store the bulb and then attempt to chill before forcing again next year.
I’m going to be really honest and the likely hood of this bulb ever blooming again is very slim.

Unfortunately you do not live in a climate that supports Hyacinth bulbs.

These links can help you with soil amendments for clay.

I would also suggest you talk with your County Extension Office for a soil test and their recommendations for amendment and tree choices for your region.
Here is a link to help you locate your nearest office.
