Hyacinth Plant

I received a beautiful pink Hyacinth plant for Easter. It hasĀ four bulbs in the pot. I would like to eventually plant them in my garden. When can I plant the bulbs, and do I have to wait until there are no more flowers on them? I know to plant 8 inches deep and 2 to 3 inches apart.
