How to Treat Herbs Indoors?

Question

My herbs are still outdoors in Manhattan. Should they be cut back?
My still healthy herbs are: parsley, chives, tarragon, oregano, and thyme. Would like to find basil somewhere to winter indoors as well (my crop of basil was spent by early Nov. ). Thank you

I feel certain that some will disagree, I think most herbs the most tender (Basil for instince) would prefer to remain outside for the winter. All you listted will perform better in cool temperatures outside with humidity than in normal household temps and reduced humidity. They will have a more intense light than if inside. Unless the plants are in a windy location and it gets below 25, they should be fine. If it’s really cold with bad wind, set the plants on ground in a location protected from the wind. (And, if you can’t find a basil plant, buy a bunchof fresh and root them as cuttings, then pot them up.) 🙂
