Q.How To Treat A Weeping Cherry With Brown Tinged Leaves

Zone 05478 | Susanna added on August 18, 2024 | Answered

We had the tree planted but our soil is very much clay and so didn’t drain well and the tree started to die/rot and lost all its leaves so we dug it up and put in a large pot ( with good drainage) new leaves started appearing and now they are becoming tinged with brown

Likely, this may be either Phytophthora or Anthracnose, which encompasses several fungal pathogens. Wet and compact soils will make it easier for infections to take hold. Once it does, then it might remain within the tree for quite awhile. Whichever it may be, it is likely that the disease was transferred during transplant.
