Q.How To Transplant A Large Spiny Cactus From The Ground Into A Pot?

I’ve had this baby in the ground for at least 30 years. It had been growing taller in the last few and reaching towards the sun. It has shallow roots. I would like to put it in a pot. Any suggestions on how to keep in upright in the pot. It’s so heavy I worry about it tipping over in a small pot. Thank you.

You could add a small trellis to the container and loosely tie the cacti to it. You also can cut it back. Here are some tips for transplanting that should help:
