How to transplant a fig tree

I have a friend that is moving and has 2 fig trees that have been planted outdoors for about 3 years. Is it possible to dig them up and move them? Can I do this while they are actively growing during the summer?

It is possible to move them but you must be cautious with the warm weather.

Trim the tree back to lateral branches, removing 1/3 of it’s size.
Water the tree for 2 days prior to moving and right before digging up.
Dig a trench around the tree to access the root ball.
Work in the coolest part of the day.
Prune the roots back to the main root ball, and work the root ball out of the ground with a shovel.
Make sure the root ball is wet, wrap in burlap then a plastic tarp to keep wet.
Remember to dig the new hole twice as large as the root ball and plant the tree at the same depth or no more than 1 to 2″ higher.
You may need to stake the tree.
Water the tree well for the remainder of the season. Add mulch to help retain moisture.
