How to stop and treat powdery mildew on african violets

Question

I have African violets in my home. Seems like at least once a year I fight powdery mildew on one or more plants.. What causes this, how can I prevent it and treat it when it appears??? I would give you a photo, but I cleaned it all up with dish soap yesterday!!
