Q.How To Properly Grow / Prune An Alegehney Serviceberry As A Tree
Last year we planted a 6′ Allegheny Serviceberry tree in our front yard. It is growing well and produced fruit this past spring. It is thriving and rapidly growing taller but with a thin trunk and sparse canopy. How should I prune it to: 1) get the trunk to become thicker and 2) get the canopy to be denser?

You can pinch off the tips of the branches, which should encourage more stems. The trunk will thicken as it matures.
