Q.How to Plant Garden Around Pests
I have a large backyard and would like to plant a vegetable garden; however, when I tried a couple of years ago, when the tomatoes came up they were all eaten (my guess would be by the deer). Our area has gophers, squirrels, deer, skunks, groundhogs, chipmunks, field mice and moles. I would like to know if there is a way to plant a garden with maybe chicken wire under the soil and make posts, with a cover to keep these animals from eating my garden, and have a door (something like a greenhouse) to keep all these pests away from the garden. Please let me know what you think. I live in south central New Jersey.
I forgot about the raccoons in the area as well. Although I haven’t seen any in my yard, I have seen one in a neighbor’s yard. the township’s pest control dept. says they can’t do anything about the animals and couldn’t give us any tips on preventing them.

You might consider adding deterrent plants (in attractive containers) around the perimeter of your garden.
