Q.How To Kill Seckel Pear Buds In The Spring.

Zone Selinsgrove, PA 17870 | Anonymous added on October 25, 2022 | Answered

We have an unusual dilemma. We have a very large Seckel pear tree over our deck. It’s taller than our two story house. It provides great shade but we don’t want the pears. They start falling down in September/October and it’s bombs away. The pears make a mess, attract bees, have damaged the grill gazebo, umbrella and have hurt one of the cats. How can we kill the buds in the spring without hurting the tree. Every once in a while we have a late frost in early May and that does the trick, but we can’t depend on that every year. thank you.

The tree can be sterilized, but it's not foolproof and is better left to the professionals. You may want to consider replacing the tree.
