Was told to cover with 3mn cover and hold down with rocks. How long must they be covered? Some of the baby fronds are brown…does this mean they are dead? Do they still have to be dug up,??

I didn't find any information on killing suckers with plastic, so it must not be a popular method. You can cut them out with a disinfected saw. Cover the wound with copper sulfur. You also can grow new trees from the "pups." Here is how to propagate them:
