Q.How to increase the bulb size of Tulips and Hyacinths

Zone 9 | natscenario added on February 16, 2012 | Answered

The last three years I have been trying to enlarge the size of my tulip and hyacinth bulbs, but they do not get larger than half an inch. I am living in Islamabad, Pakistan where the ambient temperatures in winter range from from a minimum of minus 5 to a maximum of plus 22 degree Celsius. Please guide or answer what I should do to enlarge the size of bulbs to get a larger size flower of tulip and hyacinth. Thanks

Nayyar

Some varieties have naturally large bulbs and some are small. However, you may want to try adding some phosphorus (like bone meal) to the soil to help promote healthier bulb growth and better flowering.
