How To Handle Orchid Roots When Moving To A Larger Pot

My orchid has quite a few healthy roots that are growing and hanging over the side of the pot it is presently planted. I read that they should not be covered or they will probably not survive. Is this true? Also, what do I need to do to get my plant to produce flowers and when.

The aerial roots should not be covered or cut off. Those are the roots that help the orchid attach to trees in their native habitats. They are thicker than regular roots and silvery with a green tip. Make sure when you repot that you only cover the regular root system. Also go up about an inch in the pot size. You don't need a deeper one. And be sure to use Orchid potting mix.

To get it to rebloom, depending on the type of orchid you have, be sure to give it the recommended light, which is usually bright but indirect, do not overwater, feed it regularly with an orchid fertilizer, and increase humidity. Leaves should be a medium green with yellow overtones; that indicates they are getting enough light to rebloom.
