How to grow a Weeping Pussy Willow in the deep south

I just bought a very small weeping pussy willow tree today. The problem I have is I live in the Lowcountry of South Carolina zone 8b. I have heard that these trees do not do well here due to the extremely hot summers. I have only seen 3 of these trees in my entire life (and one was at a family member’s home in Michigan…LOL) I have no idea how to grow them or tend them. I have always loved the way they look and thought I would give it a shot. Any tips for planting so I can keep my little tree alive? I could use all the help I can get including tips on southern sun exposure, soil content, watering and all that. Thanks y’all!

You are on the very edge of its growing zone. This means that it will tolerate the heat of your area, but may require a little help.

If you can grow it in a large container, then you can move it to shade on the hotter days. If you want it in the ground, then I would recommend putting it in partial shade, to hide it from the summer, midday sun.

Make sure to keep it well watered during the hot season. This will help keep the root zone a little cooler.
