How To Grow A Gardenia Outdoors In Northern Ohio

I am trying (again) to keep a gardenia bush alive. I have it on a patio in full sun and then moved it to part shade. The buds get brown and drop. It’s in a large plastic pot but without any peat or mulch which I can add. Suggestions?

This article should help. I would add mulch to help keep it cool. If you need acidic soil, you can add peat to the container soil.
