how to get your amaryllis to bloom

Last winter got a bulb in one of those kit with a glass container and a bunch of rocks. It never bloomed, kept it moist and in the sunlight. It would put out a tall leaf and as soon as the second one would start to grow, the first one would drop off. Gave up and stuck it outside where I thought it was done. One day decided to stick it in a pot of dirt to see what would happen and wala, it started to grow. Now I have 3 very tall (2’+) leaves and an offshoot with tall leaves (over 1′). Still no sign of a stem or blossom…any suggestions?

At this point, you may want to start over with a new bulb. If you want to give this bulb another chance, be sure not to remove the foliage until it turns yellow, as the foliage provides food to the bulb through photosynthesis. You might also try giving the bulb a bit of bulb fertilizer or general-purpose fertilizer.
