How to get rid of gophers

Question

I believe I have gophers in my yard/garden. I saw the holes along the fence and I actually saw one of the creatures briefly when it poked its head out of the hole to eat some bird seed that had fell to the ground from the feeder. Behind my garden there are a lot of trees which eventually lead into the woods. Can I get rid of these creatures without killing them? I also own three dogs which run around the yard.
