Q.How To Get Rid Of Borers In Fig Trees

Zone Melbourne Australia | cjanella added on September 14, 2020 | Answered

Just read your helpful article but have some questions. Please explain a little more about placing netting around the trunk of the tree. Also if I cut off branches, do I cover the end with say fine netting too.? Is treating with a chemical also advised? Discovered that my plum tree trunk rotted due to this and so is the lemon tree. How to protect the lime tree?? Thanks for your help. Janella

Once they have established, getting rid of them will be impossible. Prevention is the only method, unfortunately.

It is terrible to say, but any tree heavily infected will be considered a loss, and those pictures show a tree that is devastated by the infestation.

Netting can help, but in areas where the borers are prevalent- Chemical means may be the best option.

There are many insecticides on the market, but you may want to contact your local agricultural authorities, since your laws will differ from ours, here in the US.
