Q.How To Encourage Branching In A Plumeria Houseplant?

Anonymous added on May 15, 2025 | Answered

I purchased my plant 4 years ago. It was about 24″ tall at that time. It is now well over 4ft, but it has no branches. Just a very long, weak truck that requires support. The leaves come out each year, but it has no branches. It has never flowered. The articles I read about branching say to prune existing branches. What to do when there are none? The attached picture is from this morning, the leaves are just returning after being dormant.

To induce branching you would need to cut the top off as if you were going to propagate it. Cut off about 12 inches and root the top part. The lower part should branch. This will delay any chance of flowering. You also open it up to disease. First, you might try optimum care such as regular fertilizing, time outdoors, and proper watering to see if it will branch.
