How To Clean Up A Neglected Garden?

I have a garden that has been somewhat neglected because life happened. Lily of the Valley has taken over as well as a few other pretty things that I just don’t want so much of. Because a tree has gotten bigger it is also now more of a shade garden. Hostas are doing wonderful. What advice do you have for cleaning this up? Should I dig up what I want to keep and then rototill and replant?
