How often should I water crooked neck squash?

How often should I water crooked neck squash? I live in Montgomery, AL and soil type is a clay mix.

Most vegetables need at least 2 inches of water each week. With clay soil, however, it is better to amend it with compost or similar organic matter to improve its drainage capacity. Then you can try watering 1-2 times a week for long periods of time, say at least 20 minutes. This will make sure the water gets down deeper and will not evaporate quickly.
