Q.how much water do bearded irises need?

Zone 8 | sleslie added on July 30, 2012 | Answered

I have heard that bearded irises need very little water; however, I have watched other gardeners water their iris in the same beds as roses, and get super results for flowering. If I don’t water as much, will there be less chance of blooms next June?

For the most part, iris need little water after getting established. But, if they do get water, it won't hut them.

In very dry conditions, such as those that many parts of the country are dealing with, they will need to be watered. If you are seeing browning on the leaves, then you should start to provide some water for them until the dry spell ends.
