How Long Until a Watermelon Ripens

macdknife added on August 6, 2013 | Answered

I am in the southern Ca. and want to know how long do I let my watermelon fruit grow once they start growing. Please don't say "till they're ripe. " Oh well, I asked. Also, does the plant require more watering when growing fruit?

Yes, watermelons require more watering while fruiting, as do many fruit-bearing plants. Here is more information: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/edible/fruits/watermelon/watering-watermelon.htm

How long depends on the variety. Usually varieties with smaller fruits ripen more quickly than large fruited varieties. This article should help: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/edible/fruits/watermelon/pick-a-watermelon.htm
