Q.How Long Does It Take Cholla Cactus To Grow From Seed?

Zone Logan, UT | Anonymous added on March 25, 2021 | Answered

Hello, I read the article written by Bonnie Grant on this website about Cholla cactus propagation and care. She mentioned in the article that growing cholla cactus from seed is possible, it just happens very slowly. What kind of time frame should I be expecting for the first little sprouts to come out? I harvested the seeds from cholla fruit obtained in eastern Arizona.

This article says two or three weeks for general cactus germinating, however some species take longer. Opuntia species I read can take up to 180 days. The second article says seed or cuttings is recommended for this species.
