How long before Clematis begins to take off?

Question

I have never had good luck with clematis before, but I just planted Warsaw Nike in a large long planter, covered it with mulch and keep it watered. I deadheaded the dead blooms after planting. They just don’t look good and don’t look like they will do much. They look weak and spindly. How long does it take before they begin to take off and grow?
