How I Can Save My Gardenia Plant

I have a gardenia plant that was a gift from my hubby. A few days ago it was affected by small insects, so I sprayed some Boric powder on it. Now the plant is losing its leaves. Please help me to save my gardenia.

Gardenias attract a number of insects: aphids, mealy bugs, scale, red spider mites and thrips. They will also drop their leaves as a response to insect infestation.
