Sunlight affects the height of a plant because if it doesn’t have any sunlight it will die because it only have water

It also affects the height because sunlight is needed by the plant to produce energy. A plant uses that energy to build new cells, which are like building blocks. Without those building block like cells, the plant can not grow taller.
