how do you water an orchid

For years I have been watering my orchids by putting water in the bottom of the pot and the roots of the orchid drinking that water. I have never watered orchids from the top as in pouring water onto the bark. Never had a problem. 2 ladies told me today you must always water from the top. Which is correct?

If you have been successful with your method of watering and caring for your Orchids, by all means, continue!
One of the beautiful things about gardening is that you can always learn something new.
