How Do You Trim Angel Trumpet Tree

Do you trim the old branches of your angel trumpet tree or do they grow leaves on old branches. If you trimm them wrong will they renew themselves. Mine are putting out at the ground level. What should I do. Thanks. The branches are bare and have no y shapes they are just straight. Should I cut them to the ground

It is very fortunate that they are alive, at all! They are not hardy down to zone 7, so you should expect them to die back to the roots each year.

Colder than expected years will, likely, leave you with completely dead plant.

Prune back the entire dead portion and it will resume growth form the roots.
