How Do You Propagate A Corn Plant

Question

I accidentally broke the top off my corn plant and it was having issues with black stem but I trimmed the dead off but the base of it is still green, will it grow with side shoots? I dipped the top in a cutting solution and replanted it but I was wondering about the stalk. Thank You
