How do I use mushroom compost in gardening

I just purchased one cubic yard of mushroom compost for my vegetable garden (4 ft x 8 ft planting bed). Can I plant seeds in the compost or do I have to mix soil with the compost?

For flower beds and vegetable gardens, till about 3 inches of the compost into the top six inches of fairly dry garden soil and then plant your plants.
