How do I transfer a pumpkin vine

My friend has a HUGE pumpkin vine that accidentily started growing in her backyard. I want to clip a piece of it so I can start growing pumpkins in my backyard. How do I cut a piece to plant it in my yard?

You can try rooting a bit by laying the stem across a container with soil and cover the stem with soil. This will cause the plant to grow more roots and you could transfer that.

But, in doing this you will set the plant back in producing fruit. If it has fruit, they will likely fall off if you transfer it. You may not have enough time to recover from the transfer and still grow ripe pumpkins before the end of the season.
