How do I separate the plant into two smaller plants?

I wash
Going to split the plant because it’s getting to big for me to bring in and out of the house when the seasons change to colder weather. But my plant is about 4foot tall and very large. And was not able to separate. What can I do?

Not every plant can be divided. It would help to know the plant variety that you have to properly instruct you.
