Q.How Do I Plant/store Amaryllis Bulbs I Found In The Front Of The House I Bought About A Year Ago?

Zone Columbia, MD 21045 (zone 7) | Anonymous added on August 7, 2025 | Answered

I moved into a house in May 2023. I started working in he front garden area and while turning soil over I found some bulbs that appear to be Amaryllis bulbs that were about 4″-8″ below the surface. How do I care for them and when do I plant them (near the surface)? I live in zone 7.

They do look a lot like amaryllis bulbs but they are small. In zone 7, you can leave amaryllis bulbs in the ground if you mulch them well. Locating them on the south side of the house helps, too. Plant them 5 or 6 inches below ground. They should bloom outside in late spring. If you prefer to force them indoors, here is more info on caring for them.
