wildflower garden in winter

How do I make my wildflower garden look attractive in winter? I am taking out some overgrown evergreens in my front, south facing garden and we are laying a patio. I would like a couple of large wildflower beds to encourage some bees, butterflies and other insects but as it’s the front garden, I want it to also look nice in winter with either grass or other greenery.

Adding a few shrubs to a wildflower garden bed can add some structure and interest. Look for plants that may have colored bark, for instance Red Twig Dogwood looks beautiful in the winter.
Also many wildflowers can be left to go to seed and stay all winter in the garden. Coneflowers and Rudbeckia add quite a bit of visual interest to the winter garden.
Stroll though some local garden centers to get the ideas going.
