Q.How Do I Get My Daffodils Happy?
When I lived in my last home the soil was glacial silt and my daffodils multiplied each year. Now my new home has sandy loam with compost and all the daffodils are diminishing. What can I do to help them thrive?

Daffodils often decline in sandy loam because it drains quickly and doesn’t hold nutrients or moisture as well as glacial silt. Even with compost, bulbs may not get enough sustained support after blooming, which is when they store energy for next year. To help them thrive, water regularly in early to mid-spring, especially during dry spells. Feed with a low-nitrogen bulb fertilizer right after flowering. Allow the foliage to die back naturally without cutting or tying it early. If bulbs are crowded, planted too shallow, or have declined, dig and divide them after the leaves yellow. With consistent moisture, proper timing, and a bit of post-bloom care, daffodils can rebound even in sandy soils.
