Q.How do I cut down a 20 ft. Avocado Tree

Zone Englewood Florida | EdwardT added on September 30, 2019 | Answered

I live in a mobile home park and about 12 years ago my daughter planted an avocado tree that she had started from 4 different avocado trees. It has grown to over twenty feet tall and soon will be out of hand. It has numerous branches and off shoot branches from bottom to top. This year it produced a lot of fruit. I would say the base of the tree is 6 to 8 inches straight across. Is there any way that I can cut/trim it down and save it?

This is a difficult, and dangerous task without the proper tools and knowledge on how to make a tree fall in the direction that you intend to. It is not recommended to take on this job yourself.

I would call your local extension service, as they may have information on a certified arborist that can help.
