Gardening Know How Questions & Answers - https://questions.gardeningknowhow.comHow can I tell whether I have Siberian irises or Japanese irises? I’ve had these irises for awhile but don’t know which kind they are. Siberian or Japanese? Also, I don’t know what zone I’m in. I moved here from NY and can’t seem to figure out the zone according to my grower’s map. The line seems close to one or the other.

To determine your plant hardiness zone, visit the following website and enter your zip code:

Judging by the distinct rib that runs down the middle of your leaves, I am pretty sure what you have there are Japanese irises.

The easiest way to tell the difference between Sibs and JIs is to feel the leaves. JIs have a very distinct raised central rib running the length of each leaf.
