You need to create wind blocks and breaks around your property. Fencing, structures, shrubs and trees can be used to help break up the winds a bit. Also, plant plants that are easily hurt by the wind in sheltered locations, such as near the house or fence line.

In the winter, if you are looking to protect plants from winter winds, you can wrap them in burlap and create burlap cages around them to keep the drying winds of vulnerable plants.
