How can I prevent insects from destroying my squash plants?

They can only produce for a short time before they are destroyed. I tried foil around the stem, but that didn’t work. I’m concerned about them returning next year. Is there any way to completely keep them out?

Neem oil is the most effective pesticide and is safe to use on all types of plants, including edible ones. Here is additional information: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/plant-problems/pests/pesticides/neem-oil-uses.htm [1]
