How can I make my pink dogwood blossom pinker?

I have heard if you a piece of iron down in the soil it will make the flower pinker. Is this true? My pink dogwood is just not very pretty. Please tell me what to do. Thank you.

This is a common problem with pink dogwoods. Your soil pH may not be acidic enough; pink dogwoods do best when the pH is below 6.5. I would recommend that you have your soil around the tree tested. To lower the pH you will need to add aluminum sulfate, and you will probably need to do it for a few years at least as pH adjustments happen slowly over time. You can buy a soil testing kit for home use or have a soil test conducted at your local extension office. To locate your nearest extension office go here:
