Reviving fern plant

How can I get my fern back to the beautiful thickness it was before the frost? It’s been since 2013 when it was affected by frost, I’ve been trying but have failed. Please help me, my green thumb has faded.

The good news is, it still has a lot of green, your green thumb hasn’t exactly faded! I would suggest pruning your boston fern, at least the dead stuff anyways. Boston ferns responds well to severe pruning, which encourages more prolific, bushy growth and corrects dull, leggy growth.

I almost wonder, looking at this (and maybe it’s the camera angle), if the pot the fern is in is big enough and that maybe it is rootbound? That would stunt fern growth. Do you see roots popping through the drainholes? Either way, maybe re-potting it in a bigger pot with new soil would give it just the kick it needs. And now is a great time to do so.
