hosta disease

I have a hosta that is suddenly dying. The leaves are turning brown at the tips, moving inward, and there is a sticky substance on the underside of leaves.

Your hosta may have a pest of some kind, likely aphids or a similar sap-sucking insect. The sticky substance is the honeydew left behind from their feeding. Wash the plant down good and then treat it with neem oil, which is effective against these types of insect pests.
